Virgo Personality Traits

If your birthday is between August 23rd - September 22nd, then you are a certified Virgo Queen. As a mutable earth sign, Virgo is adaptable, dependable, and hardworking. They are known for being meticulous, detail-oriented, and analytical. They are the second sign ruled by Mercury, and represent the planet's more technical and crafty side. Virgo is also one of the ‘service’ signs and loves to help those in need. 

Some things that Virgos need to be wary of are being overly critical/judgemental (especially with themselves), being a perfectionist, and getting easily distracted by new ideas and projects. Virgos can also become too hermit-like and spend too much time on their own. This makes sense as they are represented by the archetype of the Virgin, which has less to do with chastity and more with the ancient Greek definition of “one who is whole unto themselves” (Worsley).

Virgo style tends to be clean, classic, minimal, and a touch ethereal. They have an “Earth Mama” vibe that is subtly Bohemian. 

Natural fibers such as silk, linen, cotton, cashmere, wool, leather, and fur suit them really well. They’re also fans of intricate detailing such as embroidery and hand knitted items. 

They rule the sixth house in astrology, which represents health and day-to-day routines. As a result, athleisure styles work well for them.

Capsule wardrobes consisting of timeless, minimal pieces to mix and match can be a great way to avoid “analysis paralysis” and utilize their keen problem solving capabilities.

The Virgo “uniform” tends to consist of good quality denim, a classic white top, and a sweater or cardigan. Denim jackets are also a staple item and are great for layering with a well-fitted pair of joggers or a sundress. 

Another important facet of Virgo style is that they don’t shy away from their sensuality. A bit of cleavage, a peek-a-boo slit in a skirt, or form fitting fabrics display their sultry side in a way that is balanced and elegant.  

Virgo Color Palette

The colors most associated with Virgo are: 

• Bright white

• Olive green

• Sapphire

• Golden brown

• Beige

• Navy

• Earth tones

Virgos love their neutrals, and switching out black or brown basics with an olive green is a nice way to mix it up and add visual interest. 

I’ve found that a lot of women shy away from wearing white, because they’ve been conditioned to believe that it makes them look bigger or that white clothing is more difficult to care for. I disagree with both of these! Virgos look downright ethereal and shine brightest in a white outfit. If all white feels like too much, try adding in light earth tones to create a cohesive look. 

Putting It All Together

Now you know how to cultivate a perfectly-polished Virgo style! Take these tips and make them your own. Don’t forget that your sun sign (the sign people are most familiar with and what they look at when they check their horoscope) is only one piece of your astrological puzzle. If this doesn’t totally resonate, then figure out how to make it authentic to you by playing with color, accessories, and silhouettes.
